Secret Recipe Club! Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies

As trends go, I think that the chocolate chip cookie dough one is almost always on top. People love cookie dough, especially chocolate chip cookie dough. I feel like I see it everywhere, on brownies, in cakes, in fudge. There is nothing wrong with that of course (see above), because it's absolutely delicious.

Today is reveal day for my group in the Secret Recipe Club. If you would like to find out more, then click here. The idea is that all of the members are assigned a blog (secretly of course!) and each member can peruse their assigned blog to find something that they would like to make, or several things to make in the future. The assigned blogs are kept completely secret until the reveal day and time, then you get to see who had your blog, and you get to post about what you made from your assigned blog. It's a lot of fun, and a great way to discover new blogs and recipes.

This month I was assigned to The Tasty Gardener. I have never heard of her blog before but one of my favorite parts of this club is discovering new blogs. I'm so glad that I was assigned to Heather's Blog because I was enamored with all of the recipes and had a difficult time deciding which one to make. Her blog is about more than food, it's also about gardening! I love gardening myself and am getting ready to begin another garden next month. I have all sorts of things picked out to grow, such as black cherry tomatoes, purple tomatillos, multicolored carrots, and veronica cauliflower.

I bookmarked a lot of recipes to make in the future such as the Eggs Benedict, Baklava, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, and Asiago Cheese and Crab Dip. After consulting my husband (who would be enjoying the recipe with me), we decided on the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies. That was a great decision. Heather wrote that they are very rich and she was right, I love sweets and could only eat half a piece. I also baked mine in a springform pan though and cut it into 12 pieces. So....they were sort of big pieces. At first I thought that the cookie dough was to thick, and I used my hands to press it onto the slightly warmed brownie. But after spreading the chocolate on top and letting the whole dessert cool slightly, then the texture was just right!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies

- 6 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 eggs, beaten

For the cookie dough top
- ¾ cup butter
- ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
- ¾ cup white sugar
- 3 tbsp 1% milk
- 1½ tsp vanilla
- 1½ cup flour
- 1½ cup chocolate chips

Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9″ square baking pan with foil and coat with cooking spray.
  2. For the brownie bottom: Combine flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Place ½ cup chocolate chips and milk in a microwave safe container, microwave for 1 minute, stir until smooth.
  4. Add the milk mixture, butter, vanilla, and eggs to the dry ingredients; stir until smooth.
  5. Stir in the remaining chocolate chips. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center of brownies comes out clean.
  6. To make cookie dough topping
  7. Beat together the butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar in a bowl until well blended, 45-60 seconds. Add the milk and vanilla to the sugar mixture.
  8. Beat in the flour just until blended.
  9. Fold in 1 cup of the chocolate chips.
  10. Spread on top of the brownies. Melt the remaining chocolate chips and spread over top of the cookie dough. Chill before cutting.

*I added 2 tablespoons of peanut butter to the remaining ½ cup of chocolate chips before melting
